Key Curriculum Press Releases Second Edition of Interactive Mathematics Program

Key Curriculum Press has announced the release of the second edition of the Interactive Mathematics Program (IMP). The four-year integrated high school mathematics curriculum, designed and field-tested with support from the National Science Foundation, helps teachers lead their students to success in mathematics, the announcement states.

The IMP is an integrated, problem-based curriculum that offers challenging content and emphasizes mathematical reasoning. IMP's approach helps students learn to think creatively and critically, and teaches them to draw from many areas of mathematics to solve real-life problems, according to the announcement. During this process, IMP students acquire a number of transferable life-enriching skills, ranging from working in groups to expressing ideas orally and in writing. Studies show that compared to students in traditional mathematics high school courses, IMP students have significantly higher overall grade point averages and score as well or better on standardized tests such as the SAT.

The new edition of IMP Year 1 helps educators immediately challenge, engage, and focus their students, the announcement states. Revised to better help an educator prepare their students for algebra-based standardized tests, Year 1 provides a broader introduction to algebra and more formal work with linear functions and algebraic symbol manipulation. In addition, the second edition offers an online Teacher's Guide with printable resources, sample lesson plans, and advice from other educators.

Pearson’s “Miller & Levine Biology” Premieres New & Interactive Edition

Pearson’s "Miller & Levine Biology" premieres a new and interactive edition designed to take students on biology adventures and virtual journeys.

The program’s new digital center, Biology.com, enables students to explore their world as they embark on real-life science video adventures with a team of young "ecogeeks." Described by scientist-author Joe Levine as "science reality tv" the "Untamed Science" program provides a blend of energy, enthusiasm, and solid scientific knowledge.

The digital materials offer information and activities, including complete online student and teacher editions of the textbooks, editable worksheets, interactive study guides, science games, and online assessments.

The Miller & Levine Biology" program is designed to help all students learn the big ideas and concepts of this field of science, regardless of their learning style or ability. Customized curriculum packages allow educators to select the personalized learning solution that fits the needs of their classrooms. "Miller & Levine Biology" is designed to use with students who are learning on grade level; the "Foundation Series: Miller & Levine Biology" includes the same content--written for students not performing at grade level--and provides embedded reading support to ensure that struggling learners master key biology concepts.

Teachers who want to combine print and digital resources can choose the "Core Edition: Miller & Levine Biology." A completely digital program is available via Biology.com and Biology.com PLUS. The program also offers two workbooks for students needing additional support in reading or study skills.
