Mandarin Oasis is a centralized Web-based library management system that allows access to library resources through any workstation with a Web browser.

Oasis offers complete automation functions from a single screen, including cataloging, circulation, searching, reports, and inventory. The screen appearance and features can be tailored for each library. The program is a seamless upgrade from the Windows-based Mandarin M3 automation system.

Oasis features one-point installation, maintenance, and updates. The cataloging tools enable users to add, copy, edit, and delete records; work with simple and advanced editors; and print records or lists of records. Oasis supports Unicode, the universal encoding standard that simplifies the sharing of multilingual text.

Circulation tools include loan, return, renew, reserve, and booking; view patron and item status; display patron and item pictures; process fines and issue refunds; and send e-mail notifications for fines and overdues.

Searching tools feature customizable search options with Unicode support, visual search, author and subject hypertext links in record display, interlibrary loan requests, My Bookbag, and My Account.

The report generator creates custom reports including report type, date range, and details. When reports are ready, e-mail is sent with a link to PDF report files.

Inventory features offer full or partial inventory options; reports can be printed or saved for later use.

The program includes online help options. Schools Interoperability Framework (SIF) compliance enables seamless communication with other SIF-compliant software.

A variety of optional add-on modules are available. Authority Control enriches searches with "see" and "see also" references and standardizes records to the most current subject and author headings. PACPortal provides a federated search portal option for searches of all of the library's resources. Union Catalog allows resource-sharing across a district. The Pocket Module enables conducting loans, returns, reserves, renewals, and in-house circulation and inventory using a PALM hand-held scanner. Syndetic Solutions and Z39.50 integration are also available.
