Macromedia, Inc. has announced Macromedia Studio 8, a suite for educators, students, Web designers, developers, video professionals, and graphic artists to design, develop, and maintain interactive online experiences. Combining the latest releases of Macromedia Dreamweaver, Macromedia Flash Professional, and Macromedia Fireworks, and productivity tools Macromedia Contribute and Macromedia FlashPaper, Studio 8 offers greater efficiency and simplified workflow to create Web sites, interactive media, learning, and mobile content, according to the announcement.

The Studio 8 K-12 site license includes Studio 8 software for all of the computers in the school, Digital Design classroom curriculum for teaching digital communication skills and career courses in Web design, classroom projects for elementary through high school students, staff development guides with teacher workshop materials for professional development, and teacher home use rights for Studio 8.

Studio 8 contains new workflow enhancements to allow Web developers to define and share templates with educators, administrators, and students to update Web content. New Flash video encoding capabilities and starter templates make Web video more approachable for student projects, the announcement states. New multiplatform support allows e-learning developers to create interactive, flexible online content to deliver wherever that learning content is needed, and on whatever device they choose to deploy.

The Macromedia Studio 8 K-12 site license is for use by K-12 public and private schools and is priced according to student enrollment. For schools with 500 or fewer students, the site license is $2,500, and for schools with 501 or more students, the Site License is $3,500. Upgrades are $1,875 and $2,625 respectively, and schools have the option to purchase 24-month subscriptions with their site licenses. The education price for a single Studio 8 box is $299. Studio 8 is expected to ship in September.
