Discovery Education has announced that its unitedstreaming Plus and Science Connection services will feature content from Discovery Channel's epic series Planet Earth.
A co-production of Discovery Channel and BBC, the 11-part high-definition Planet Earth series, which premiered March 25, 2007, was filmed in over 200 countries and took over five years to produce. Educators who use unitedstreaming Plus and Science Connection will be able to access video from the series, including clips on the rain forests of Borneo, the peaks of the Himalayas, the world's harshest deserts, and the planet's most spectacular species from the deep ocean.
In addition, Discovery Education is providing schools that subscribe to these services with accompanying teacher resources, including teacher's guides, writing prompts, animal guides, and posters.
Discovery Education's unitedstreaming Plus is an enhanced version of its unitedstreaming service, giving existing unitedstreaming users the ability to tap into a wider array of digital educational content. Building on the strengths of unitedstreaming, unitedstreaming Plus features nearly 3,000 additional full-length videos, access to thousands of newly added audio resources (including famous speeches and audio books, poetry and classical music recordings) as well as the 20,000 photographic images, more than 27,000 reference articles and numerous other powerful teaching elements found in unitedstreaming.
Discovery Education Science Connection is a new supplemental science toolkit that is tied to state standards and blends interactive, inquiry-based content with formative assessment. The service engages today's technology-savvy students in learning science content and process skills. In addition to virtual labs, Science Connection provides high-quality interactive content and other multimedia resources that encourage exploration, stimulate critical thinking and deepen understanding.
