The American Association of School Librarians (AASL), a division of the American Library Association, announced the 2007 recipients of its annual awards:
The AASL Collaborative School Library Media Award ($2,500) – Renee Zorc, school library media specialist at Daniel J. Wright Junior High School in Lincolnshire, IL. The award sponsor is Tandem Library Books.
The ABC-CLIO Leadership Grant – The Association for Indiana Media Educators (AIME). The grant of up to $1,750 is sponsored by ABC-CLIO Schools.
The Distinguished School Administrator Award ($2,000) – Nathan S. Greenberg, superintendent of schools, Londonderry (NH) School District. The award is sponsored by ProQuest Company.
The Frances Henne Award – Jessica Klinker of Immaculate Conception School in Columbus, OH. The award is sponsored by Greenwood Publishing Group.
The Information Technology Pathfinder Award – The Elementary category winner is Holly Hartell of Pacolet (SC) Elementary School. The Secondary category winner is Sheila Howard from North Atlanta (GA) High School. The award, sponsored by Follett Software Company, gives $1,000 to the school library media specialist and $500 to the library.
The Innovative Reading Grant ($2,500) – Nancy Baumann, librarian at Barnett Shoals Elementary School in Athens, GA. The grant is sponsored by Coughlin Publishing.
The National School Library Media Program of the Year Award ($10,000) – The School District winner is Norman (OK) Public Schools. The Single School winners are Harpeth Hall School in Nashville, TN and North Elementary School in Noblesville, IN. The award, sponsored by Follett Library Resources, provides each winner with a crystal obelisk and $10,000.
The School Librarian’s Workshop Scholarship ($3,000) – Donna Mae Ohlgren of Minnesota. The scholarship is donated by Jay W. Toor, president of Library Learning Resources.
