Content/Features: An interest inventory determines student interests based on 16 categories. The Lexile Framework for Reading measures reading levels. An individual profile for each student is created. Recommended booklists are personalized to fit student needs and interests.

Each student’s dashboard includes number of books opened, read, and time spent reading. Users can change their avatar, update the interest inventory, and monitor reading growth and progress.

Assessments include end-of-book quizzes and benchmark tests to measure reading growth by student, group, grade, and district. Reading supports include audio, highlighting, and dictionary. Books can be read and rated online using a 5-star scale, and students can share book reviews.

Topics include genres, science, language arts, social studies, math fun, animals, hobbies, sports, scary and gross, and About Me. Content/Features Rating: A

Ease of Use: A main menu includes recommended books based on interests and ability. All Books provides access to the complete library. Teachers assign books in the Teacher’s List. My List is the personal library of favorite books. Ease of Use Rating: A

Recommendation: Reading a book has never been easier now that digital books such as myOn are available. myOn reader is an easy way to provide students with books that are interesting and engaging. There are 3,000-plus titles to choose from for students at all reading levels. The best part is that these books can be accessed on iPads, the internet, tablets, and other mobile devices. Students can read anytime, anywhere. One of my favorite features is the professional narration of stories for students who are struggling readers. Audio provides a model for fluency.

Quizzes provide random questions for quick and easy assessment. The management tools provide a variety of reports to indicate student progress and growth. Teachers can present the program for independent reading or assign specific titles based on student ability and interests.

I found the format of the books attractive and eye-catching. Topics were varied and sure to appeal to today’s youth who are so comfortable in a technology-rich environment. Once a child selects a book, a control panel is added to the bottom of the screen. Options include controlling screen size, volume if sound is used, ability to highlight selected passages, and access to a dictionary. Student reviews and book quiz scores are sent to teacher files for review.

I highly recommend this program for students of all ages. MyON readers will definitely promote better readers who are excited about what they are reading. Highly Recommended.
