Installation/Access: Registration permits access anywhere and on any device. Installation Rating: A

Content/Features: Symbaloo can be set as the homepage for easy and quick access to websites on the internet. Since information is stored on the web and the cloud, bookmarks are accessible from any device anywhere with internet connectivity. With an account, favorites are available on any iPhone, PC, Mac, iPad, or tablet.

Users have the ability to customize tiles and create their own tile names, text, and tile color. These tiles lead to specific URLs on the internet. These bookmark tiles are then grouped together in a webmix. Tiles can be shared via a link or email as public or private.

The Symbaloo Gallery contains more than 30,000 premade web tiles in a database available to all users. The webmixes are private and can only be accessed by user friends. Users can search for webmixes made by others.

With a school or district account, the user can have favorite websites on a tablet, computer, or mobile device. The teacher can see student work online or read blogs on a RSS feed. Users can share and collaborate webmixes on Facebook or Twitter. Content/Features Rating: A

Ease of Use: A homepage provides easy access to URL sites created by the user. Students never have to type a URL address or risk a spelling error. Ease of Use Rating: A

Product Support: YouTube videos offer detailed instructions on how to create a homepage using Symbaloo. Current users have created personal YouTube videos to explain how they use Symbaloo in their classroom. Support is provided to users who purchase a subscription to Symbaloo. Product Support Rating: A

Recommendation: Symbaloo is definitely a tool that will provide a safer environment for students in the classroom. Teachers control what sites the students use for projects and research. Although Symbaloo can be used by all ages, it is especially useful in the elementary school, where students find it difficult to type in a long URL, since spelling and punctuation errors prevent young students from gaining access in a timely manner. Symbaloo makes gaining access to a specific site fast and easy by eliminating the need for students to type in web addresses manually. It is a great way for students to get to a specific website. The program is free and contains no ads.

I enjoyed viewing the many videos on YouTube showing how teachers use Symbaloo. A search feature gives the user the ability to find a specific tile or a grouping of tiles called a webmix. A webmix is a grouping of bookmarks saved in a customized tile that leads to a specific URL on the internet. You can even put your school’s website on your Symbaloo homepage!

I highly recommend Symbaloo as a time-saving tool in the classroom. Recommended
