Installation/Access: This is a matter of installing software and setting up teacher, student, class, and administrative IDs. Access Rating: A

Content/Features: One important feature of Lexia Reading 8.0 is Assessment Without Testing, which offers an accurate, detailed picture of reading performance for districts, schools, and students, done in real time, without having to administer tests. It offers norm-referenced, predictive performance measures.

While students work on systematic, structured skill development activities at their grade and reading levels, the program records student responses and adjusts student activity accordingly. The program identifies students for small-group or individualized instruction, and teachers are given targeted instructional strategies and structured lesson plans.

Lexia Reading 8.0 is intended to be a complete reading curriculum, combining software, web-based material, and 75 supporting paper-based lessons. In addition, this latest release has seven new Lexia Lessons for use on interactive whiteboards in SMART and Promethean formats.

This is a wonderful program with only one problem: Adequate use requires lots of computer access for all students—something my district and many others can’t provide at this time. Content/Features Rating: A

Ease of Use: Lexia Reading 8.0 is easy enough to use, but it is a complicated program that requires advance preparation. Students will need help to get started. Ease of Use Rating: A
