Reviewer Comments:

Installation/Access: This Web-based program requires no installation. A password is used to log in and enter a class list. Each student can also be given a user name and password. Teachers can access the assessment results to monitor student reading skill progress within specific portions of the program. Installation/Access Rating: A

Content/Features: The program's Diagnostic Online Reading Assessment (DORA) tests students individually to evaluate their reading skills and generate extensive individual reports that provide a unique reading profile and detailed prescriptions for each student.

The program has been expanded to measure eight sub-skill levels: high frequency words, word recognition, phonics, phonemic awareness, oral vocabulary, spelling, reading comprehension, and fluency.

The newest Let's Go Learn/Reading module is Phonemic Awareness; the program's newest optional model is Fluency. Additional program updates include more diagnostic and prescriptive information, including new student reports and new adaptive logic to make the assessment more efficient.

Let's Go Learn evaluates reading skills from Pre-K to grade 12. Students log in to their own account; the assessment begins according to the birth date of the student. Each subtest starts with a sample question and then adjusts to the student's answers.

The subtests include sight words, word recognition, phonics, word analysis, oral vocabulary, spelling, and silent reading comprehension. The assessment takes an average of 60 minutes, but will vary with student skills.

Once the assessment is completed, the student can continue by working on the program's Unique Reader activities for Pre-K to grade 5. These activities, adjusted to the needs of each student, may be turned on or off by the teacher. The lessons fall into four strands of instruction—phonics, sight words, vocabulary development, and comprehension.

A total of more than 1,000 online activities are available. After completing the initial testing, students can log in at anytime and will be directed to the lessons needed to teach specific reading skills.

At all times, teachers have access to assessment results and progress in the instructional activities. After the student assessment, the teacher is provided with an extensive reading profile to help customize student instruction. The material is presented in a manner similar to the way that a reading specialist would interpret the skills of the student, giving the teacher a wealth of specific activities to enhance individual instruction. Content/Features Rating: A

Ease of Use: From the teacher's point of view, Let's Go Learn is an easy way to assess and remediate student learning. Students receive individual assistance and focus as they learn the skills needed to be strong readers. For the students, the process is automatic and well presented. Ease of Use Rating: A

Product Support: Support is offered online and by e-mail [help@letsgolearn.com]. An FAQ section on the company's Web page provides background material; an online virtual tutorial is also available. Product Support Rating: A

Recommendation: Let's Go Learn is a unique approach to reading assessment. The program adjusts to the skills of each student by programming questions in response to continually evaluated student progress. I was impressed with the addition of the Unique Reader, which offers instruction on skills that need to be addressed and strengthened.

As educators try to improve reading instruction for all students, this program will support the classroom activities and keep the teacher informed of ways to address each student's needs. I highly recommend Let's Go Learn for your classroom. Highly recommended.
