For November 1, 2015: The Math Learning Center Organization
has created eight great math apps that will work on the web, iPad, and Android. The Geoboard
allows students to stretch bands around pegs forming a variety of line segments and polygons. Math Vocabulary Cards
help students understand key terms in mathematics. Each card features three sections: a math term, a representative example or model, and a concise definition. Number Frames
help students structure numbers to five, ten, twenty, and one hundred. Students use the frames to count, represent, compare, and compute with numbers in a particular range. Number Line, Number Places
, and Number Pieces Basic
are tools for teaching place value while enhancing computation skills. Number Rack
will help learners with number sense. Students can move colored beads in groups of fives and tens to discover addition and subtraction strategies. Finally, use Patterns and Shapes
to explore geometry and fractions, creating designs or filling in outlines.
These are great for engaging students and providing teachers with additional options to teach math.
