For January 15, 2010: Did you know that the colonists thought tomatoes were poisonous? Or that the Spanish kept cocoa a secret for 100 years. The interactive site Fresh from the World ... Where Your Food Comes From, from the University of Illinois Extension, presents the history of 15 popular foods as well as how food is grown, processed, and distributed. In addition, there are several games to reinforce the concepts of food distribution such as Food to You and Matching Game. A lesson plan with related standards and activities is available for teachers.
