For June 1, 2015: For those who are interested in experimenting with app building, try Appy Pie
. It is intuitive and easy for any beginner. Choose the type of app from a selection of icons, name it, and add content. In about an hour I created an app titled Edison Cylinder Samples with three headings, an "about" section, text, and audio. In the about category I provided information about the app and where to find more content. In the text area I supplied historical information about Thomas Edison. In the audio area I created a playlist of Edison cylinder recordings.
The app builder allowed me to choose icons or upload my own. There was also video and chat help if needed. To publish the app as is, ads and restrictions apply. To publish without ads, you need to purchase a subscription, each with its own features. Prices range from $7 per month for a basic package to $33 per month with the works. I was impressed with how easy it was to construct a simple app. I would spend more time customizing if I were going to publish it. This is a great way to teach students how to create their own apps without having to pay or register first.
