Posted Jan 1, 2012 Print Version     Page 1

For January 1, 2012: Through its website The World in 1898, the Hispanic Division of the Library of Congress presents the Spanish-American War. Documents and photographs dating from before the war offer insight and background information about the people who participated in or commented on the war. Notable figures include William McKinley, Theodore Roosevelt, Whitelaw Reid, Mark Twain, Pascual Cervera y Topete, and Máximo Gómez Baez. Several subjects are covered, such as the Rough Riders, ships used in the war, and the Treaty of Paris 1898, along with a chronology of events. These resources will be a valuable tool for teachers and students looking for primary source material.
