Posted Oct 1, 2011 Print Version     Page 1

For October 1, 2011: It's not too late to get involved with the Smithsonian's tree banding project. You can join now, through Shoutlearning.org, a partnership between The Smithsonian Institution, Microsoft Partners in Learning, and TakingITGlobal. Students around the world will band trees to create the first global observatory of how trees respond to climate.  By signing up you will receive a kit that includes everything that you need to get started, including, dendrometer (tree) bands. Choose 10 trees, then measure the growth in the spring and fall. Then, send the data to the Smithsonian. This project is designed for all ages from elementary through high school students.
