For January 1, 2006: Students will be fascinated by the story of Henry Box Brown <http://docsouth.unc.edu/brownbox/brownbox.html> who mailed himself to freedom. He traveled 350 miles from Richmond, Virginia, to Philadelphia. For 27 hours he was enclosed in a box three feet long and two and half feet deep. His experience was made famous by his narrative published in 1851. This site is part of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill's Documenting the American South digital publishing initiative.
